Learn to Handle
Firearms with
Confidence
Expert-led firearms training in Maryland. Whether you're brand new or pursuing your carry permit, we make safety practical, approachable, and empowering.
Hi, I'm Herb Addy
I proudly served in the U.S. Army, completing three combat tours. Today, I'm an NRA and Maryland State Police Certified firearms instructor — but I wasn't always an expert.
The first time I shot a rifle, my shots didn't just miss the target — they didn't even hit the frame. That experience made me realize how a lack of knowledge creates uncertainty and fear when handling firearms. That moment is what inspired me to start GunBasics.
I wanted to create a space where people — whether brand new to firearms or looking to refine their skills — could get the right training to feel comfortable, confident, and safe. Owning and using a firearm shouldn't be intimidating. With the right knowledge, it should be empowering.
Why GunBasics Exists

Our training is designed to help you develop the skills and awareness needed to handle firearms safely — whether for personal protection, recreational shooting, or even a unique and responsible date night at the range.
